This was a very awesome week for my business. My Serve Safe Certification came in from Indianapolis, I did really good on my test and it shows because I got the letter saying "You Passed!" Now I don't have to take the test again for another 5 years! hooray!
In addition to being certified it was also a very busy week with orders and life. I had to work ahead for school since I'm going to a fondant modeling class starting tomorrow for the week. It's at the same place that I took my Master's Cake Decorating class. I'm really excited about the class because sculpting different figures out of fondant is something I have always wanted to get better at (since my earliest fondant figures tended to do back bends and not hold up very well).
Today I delivered my very first cake that had fresh flowers incorporated in it. Not only was it a great learning experience it was super, duper, fun! I made the cake for one of our really, really great friend's sister. Because her sister has cancer and all of her friends and family threw a party for her to celebrate the wonderful life she has had and shower her with love, food, and cake! :) The niece of the lady the party was for owns a totally amazing flower shop called "Monarch" and was nice enough to give all the flowers I needed for the cake. She let me into the giant walk-in flower refrigerator and said, "take whatever you like!" At that moment I felt like a kid in a candy store! Just minus the candy and add flowers and add Antarctic air-conditioning. On the delivery I wasn't nervous until my mom started acting like a drill sergeant...take away the meanness and add lots of, "hurry up, people are coming, they're getting ready to start!" etc. Although it took me an extra 15 minutes more to finish setting up because of all the "paparazzi" and blinding camera flashes! LOL I guess people aren't use to seeing 13 year old cake bosses! ha ha But it was really cool feeling so important from just doing something I love so much for a friend I love so much. :)
