When Nina was about 10, she helped work on a giant rosary made completely out of cupcakes for St. John the Evangelist church family rosary night. It was shortly after that experience that she was at her Aunt's house and discovered what she calls the greatest show in existence...Cake Boss! Now, the star of the show, Buddy Valestro, was a master cake decorator with tons of experience. Nina was fascinated by his designs and how he made cakes, and slightly envious too. So she started to experiment with different things and ideas in cake decorating.
Nina started making cakes for family members only. She kept practicing things she learned from various sources and took a couple of Wilton Cake Decorating classes. Her instructor suggested that she even though was only 11 that she take the two week Master Cake Decorating Course. It took Nina a year to save the $1000 for the class but at the age of 12 she attended and graduated with other students from around the world.
After finishing her Master's class Nina's mother helped her set up an official business called Nina's Belicious Bakery, LLC. She filled out her official paperwork for the State on January 12, 2012 while Nina was still 12 years old! It is run today by Nina now 13, her mom (Lisa DeBoer) and her brother (Joshua DeBoer) serving as her web designer.
Currently, Nina's Belicious Bakery is expanding from friends, and family to her neighbors with the hope to expand cliental all over the Lake County area. She plans to continue her education in the area of cake decorating with the hopes of a degree in Baking & Pastry Arts.
